Meet the MSP Leaders

Mentored Study Program Peer Leaders are 91×ÔÅÄ undergrads who have done well in the course and who are committed to supporting their peers!

Jacqueline Caglar

MMSS, Economics, class of 2028

What is one thing that you do to help students feel comfortable in the MSP group?

I always work to develop my relationships with my students and foster their sense of community with each other. Knowing how my students are feeling on a regular basis is very important to me (sometimes more important than jumping right into material!), so I take time to check in with students to see how they're doing.

What is the best advice you have gotten on navigating 91×ÔÅÄ?  

Watch for when you are starting to compare yourself to others in order to keep a healthy mindset, and give yourself the benefit of the doubt. Always work to prioritize your physical and mental health, because you have to feel safe and cared for before you can seek out resources to help you achieve your academic goals.

What is one thing that you do to help students feel comfortable in the MSP group?

To make my students feel comfortable I hold no expectations for them besides attentiveness and an effort to improve, rather than perfection.

What is the best advice you have gotten on navigating 91×ÔÅÄ?  

The best advice I've gotten on navigating 91×ÔÅÄ is to use any type of calendar to schedule literally everything, because you will forget.

What do you like about being an MSP leader? I enjoy engaging one-on-one with students in my study group and encourage them to ask me any questions they have about the material.

What quality do you admire most in a mentor? I most admire a mentor who is willing to care about me on a personal level and is able to tailor their advice to my own personality.

What's your favorite free-time activity? I enjoy reading historical books, watching documentaries, and biking throughout Chicago!

It is important to encourage a open atmosphere such that all students feel welcome to participate and learn.

Never be afraid to ask for help from peers, teachers, or anyone.
